Jonathan in the Media
A familiar voice from Radio 4's flagship programme "From Our Own Correspondent", Jonathan writes for a wide range of newspapers and magazines, including the Guardian, the Camden New Journal, Liberal Democrat News, Liberator and Society Today.
He cut his journalistic teeth as a teenager in the Vietnam War, reporting for the Manchester Evening News and the Geographical Magazine. After graduating from Oxford, he joined Reuters news agency, which sent him to Brussels, where he covered the European institutions. He remained in the Capital of Europe for seven years, working freelance for the Brussels-based magazine the Bulletin and a number of other publications, before returning to London.
He has made a number of radio documentaries for Radio 4 and the BBC World Service in locations as varied as Brazil, Cuba, El Salvador, Oman and Israel/Palestine.
Jonathan is the author of a dozen non-fiction books, including a study of Brussels as seen by naïf artists, and of Soho in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as histories of the Great Wall of China and Kuwait, and biographies of literary figures including Dylan Thomas and Oscar Wilde.
